This project includes studies on coffee (Kenya, Uganda) and gum
arabic (Kenya). It is coordinated by Bernard Charlery and Fabrice
Pinard, researcher at ICRAF
and CIRAD.
The project is implemented by six French researchers and one Kenyan
PhD candidate.
The ‘Coffee’ project within the context of crisis in
Kenya coffee production, aims at making an inventory of the areas,
the way of life and production methods of small-scale producers.
The objective of the ‘gum arabic’ programme is to identify
the improvement margins of the network, in order to offer a best
quality raw material in the worldwide market, and to allow local
communities to collect gum through a sustainable exploitation system.
