CREATING (Cooperative Research on East African Territorial Integration
within Globalization) is a collaborative project that aims at creating,
developing and strengthening a social sciences and humanities research
network bringing together European and east African scholars and
institutions.
The project seeks to improve research capacity and develop collaboration
amongst researchers in Europe and East Africa, and by doing so to
contribute to the larger objective of regional integration. The
project will enhance integration in the research community in both
Europe and East Africa through bringing researchers together in
a series of training activities.
These activities will focus on of two kind of transborder environment:
mountains and Lake Tanganyika. The project is organized around four
themes, all of which relate to human use and management of these
cross border resources: resource management and livelihood sustainability,
human dimensions of environmental (including climatic) change, mobility
and identities, urban-rural linkages and development.
This project is coordinated by Bernard Charlery de la Masselière,
Professor of Geography at the Toulouse II University. It brings
together nine major partners in Europe and eastern Africa. For more
